How Leeds United can get promoted to Premier League on Easter Monday as Sheffield United scenario explained

With their victory over Oxford United on Good Friday, Leeds United guaranteed a promotion on Easter Monday.

The Whites are in a solid position going into the Easter weekend thanks to a comeback to form for Daniel Farke’s team and a hiccup from Sheffield United.

Leeds now leads Sheffield United in third place by five points with three games left, and it has just gotten stronger.

Burnley, who are tied with Leeds for points but second on goal differential, is positioned halfway between the Yorkshire teams in the table.

At the Kassam Stadium, there were jubilant scenes after the final whistle, which was not surprising considering Leeds is almost certain to end their Premier League absence.

Burnley and Sheffield United will face each other in a crucial match later in the day, while Leeds will host Stoke City on Monday.

In advance of what might be a historic day at Elland Road, these are the permutations.

Leeds United win

If the Whites win, their total points would reach 94. Since the gap could not be closed with two games left, promotion would be guaranteed with a seven-point lead over the third-place team.

Only if Sheffield United wins will the plans for celebrations be put on hold if Leeds wins.

Leeds United draw

Leeds’ point total would reach 92 if they were to draw. Sheffield United would then be able to draw themselves and yet prevent their opponents from securing a spot in the Premier League.

On the other hand, Sheffield United would be six points behind going into the last two rounds of games if they lost.

Although Leeds would not technically be guaranteed promotion, their superior goal differential would allow them to win two games, lose two others, and still secure promotion if Sheffield United won two games.

Leeds could guarantee it with just a point from their final two games.

Leeds United loss

The prospects of a promotion on Easter Monday would be dashed if Stoke won at Elland Road. Depending on their performance at Turf Moor, Sheffield United would need to close a five, four, or two-point deficit.
