Ex-FIFA official wants Farke talks with Howard Webb after what Leeds boss said on Sky Sports

Daniel Farke told to seek Howard Webb showdown talks after Leeds outrage

Following two significant moments of controversy during Leeds’ victory against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night, Daniel Farke has been instructed to have a showdown meeting with PGMOL chief Howard Webb.

Leeds had to work hard to win by a slim margin of 1-0 at the Riverside as Darren Williams denied perfectly excellent goals from Ao Tanaka and Patrick Bamford in each half.

Williams has a habit of removing valid Leeds goals from the record, even though both goals should have stood.

Williams incorrectly flagged Tanaka as offside in the first half at Middlesbrough.

Williams in the spotlight as more Leeds goals disallowed

Williams has also disallowed goals this season from Joel Piroe against Millwall and Willy Gnonto against Coventry when both should have stood, meaning the assistant referee has wrongfully taken four goals away from the Whites.

After Tuesday night’s encounter, Farke spoke to Sky Sports and criticized Williams for his history of letting Leeds score goals, questioning why he has kept working on matches against the West Yorkshire team.

Disallowed goalscorer Opponent Date
Willy Gnonto Coventry 5 February
Joel Piroe Millwall 12 March
Ao Tanaka Middlesbrough 8 April
Patrick Bamford Middlesbrough 8 April
Over the past eight weeks, Williams has mistakenly disallowed four Leeds goals.

Keith Hackett feels that Farke’s post-game remarks were appropriate, but he also thinks that the Leeds manager ought to speak with Webb about why his squad keeps making the same mistakes.

“Having seen two good goals wrongly ruled out for alleged offside, I think that Farke was quite restrained,”
 Hackett told MOT Leeds News.

I would suggest that he requests a meeting with Howard Webb to raise his concerns.

He should at that meeting show the video clips and discuss each decision.”

Leeds back on top of Championship despite controversy

Despite losing to Boro and being denied two good goals, the Whites have returned to the top of the Championship.

After Burnely was held to a point by relegation-threatened Derby and Sheffield United lost to Millwall, Leeds secured all three points thanks to an early goal from Dan James.

But when the Yorkshire giants got their automatic promotion bid back on track, Tanaka was crying with relief at full time.
