Archie Gray doesn’t appear to have any intention of leaving Leeds United in the near future despite transfer links to Premier League giants.

In an interview with Sky Sports on March 19, the adolescent Whites player stated that he wanted to play in the top division with his boyhood team and pursue championships.

That should be a huge relief to the supporters, as following the midfielder’s sensational rookie season, he was nearly instantly linked to both an international transfer and Liverpool and Tottenham (Daily Mail, 10 November, Mail, 8 January).

“It would mean a lot to me because that is the goal that everyone’s got here,” Grey stated when asked about the prospect of playing for Leeds United in the Premier League (3m 40s). But, particularly coming from Leeds, that’s where the team ought to be and deserves to be.

“I want to try and win trophies with Leeds, that’s what I’ve always dreamed of as a kid, and playing for England’s first team is another one that every kid from England dreams of.”

The drawback of being a successful player for any team outside of the global elite in football is that it makes you more vulnerable to being taken advantage of by teams higher up the food chain.

It would not be surprising if players in the Championship were drawn to the prospect of joining the Premier League’s elite team, even though Jurgen Klopp’s imminent departure may have diminished the allure of a move to Anfield.

However, it sounds like Gray’s top objective right now is solidifying his place at Leeds United, and as things stand, he appears to be getting closer to realising his dream of playing in the Premier League for the Whites.

It can’t be anticipated that Grey would stay at one club forever, as demonstrated by Kalvin Phillips’ departure to Manchester City two summers ago, even though the former local favorite’s growing bad luck since leaving Elland Road might make his replacement think twice.
