In 2012, Aaron Cawley, 33, ran on the field and attacked Chris Kirkland, the keeper for Sheffield Wednesday, during a televised game. He was sentenced to four months in jail and six years of suspension from sport.
After the incident, which occurred while Leeds supporters were celebrating Mateo Joseph’s first goal, Cawley is reportedly recuperating in the hospital, according to Mail Sport.
2016 saw the lifting of Cawley’s suspension following the filing of a successful appeal.
Leeds United has stated that Cawley is still prohibited from playing for the team after the incident; however, patient confidentiality prevented them from disclosing the identity of the fallen supporter.
Television cameras saw Cawley, who was serving a club ban, hugging defender Pontus Jansson following his goal that tied the score against Norwich in a Leeds game in 2016.
When he was sixteen, Cawley had faced a three-year football suspension due to aggression.
The 33-year-old was present at Leeds United’s FA Cup fifth round match against Chelsea on Wednesday night along with other away fans.
He tumbled into a lower tier of spectators that included thousands of away fans as well.
After promptly arriving at the site, medical staff removed Cawley from the ground and transported him to a nearby hospital.
