Leeds United is aiming for a double screw-up tonight when Southampton and Ipswich Town play at home against Rotherham United and Hull City, respectively.

Daniel Farke led Leeds to a 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, helping them move back into the top two above Southampton. This came after Russell Martin’s team had performed admirably to defeat West Brom.

Leeds’ important matchup with Leicester City is coming up, but before, the teams trailing them play their home games this evening in an attempt to close the gap.

Both Southampton and Hull City, the Tigers through the playoffs and the Saints automatically, have aspirations of becoming promoted. Southampton hosts Hull City tonight at St Mary’s.

As he prepared his Super 6 predictions, Sky Sports host Dave Jones said he thought Liam Rosenior’s team would do Leeds a huge service tonight by leaving St Mary’s with a 2-2 draw.

“Manchester City and Liverpool are in a race for the title and I’m predicting both teams to pick up comfortable wins in these midweek fixtures. Arsenal travel to Portugal looking to start their round of 16 in style and I think they’ll do just that.

“There’s a big EFL Championship clash in Southampton vs Hull tonight, and I am predicting the visitors to hold the Saints to a draw in an exciting match at the top end of the table.”

Jamie Carragher backs Southampton to win

While Southampton is expected to record another 2-0 victory, Jamie Carragher thinks Leeds won’t be given a break by their Humberside rivals:

“Man City drew at the weekend but I’m expecting them to bounce back in style with a big win against struggling Brentford. Liverpool will make it three wins in a row this week with a comfortable victory over Luton. In the Champions League I can see Arsenal and Barcelona winning away from home, while Inter Milan will pick up a win against Atletico Madrid.

“In the EFL Championship, Southampton will see off Hull to continue their promotion charge.”

Remarkably, the anonymous administrator thinks Hull will win 2-0 this evening.

Hull could do Leeds a huge favour tonight

It all comes down to doing our best to maintain our chances of receiving an automatic promotion at this point in the season.

However, considering the bar set by Southampton and Ipswich in recent months, any assistance from other teams in taking points away from our opponents is warmly appreciated and a huge lift.

After a lull in December, we have rallied to challenge for the top two, and the battle between the three clubs trailing Leicester will be decided by a hair’s breadth.

Currently positioned in the midst of the FA5 noise, Leeds United season ticket holder since 2013–14. I have seen it all at Elland Road, from Pablo Hernandez to 5-1 thumpings.
