Leeds United: BBC Sport pundit stunned by ‘unbelievable’ moment he saw v Plymouth in FA Cup

After Plymouth’s “unbelievable” equaliser against Leeds United in their FA Cup fourth-round replay on Tuesday, February 6, Matthew Upson was left speechless while the match was being broadcast live.

After The Pilgrims forced a replay with a 1-1 draw at Elland Road (27 January) thanks to an equaliser from Adam Randell in the second half, the two teams reconnected at Home Park.

And after another ninety minutes at Home Park, the score remained the same as Brendon Gallaway cancelled out Wilfried Gnonto’s opening goal, which had come from a free-kick that was sent into the box, Ashley Phillips knocked it back across the goal’s face, and Galloway’s chest unintentionally diverted the ball into the net.

When Upson spoke during the game’s live broadcast on BBC Sports on February 6 at 9:20 p.m., he expressed shock at what he observed. Saying, “It’s unbelievable,”

“We thought the conditions failed of this FA Cup tie this evening, but I think you’ve just seen that for such a difficult, swirly, swirly ball.

“So much light on this delivery. So really good touchback across the goal from Phillips.

“Not easy to control this ball just to get that great touch back across the goal. It’s just a simple task of getting a body part on it.”

Poor defending again from Leeds United

Leeds United once again gave up such excellent control against Plymouth, demonstrating the allure of the FA Cup.

Daniel Farke’s team was in total control, had all the possession and the opportunity to secure their spot in the fifth round, just like in the first tie at Elland Road, but they were penalised for wanting to be more merciless.

Before Plymouth equalised, the Whites should have won the match since they had numerous opportunities, including hitting the crossbar twice and the post late in the second half.

However, Plymouth played a remarkable comeback, capitalising on the challenging circumstances with a skillfully executed set-piece, as Phillips and Galloway took advantage of some terrible play from Leeds United.

Leeds United

Farke will be furious with his team for giving up the equaliser on a set-piece.

Farke will be furious with his team for letting it slip away, which led to a suspenseful conclusion at Home Park.
