After winning four games in a row in the Championship, the Whites will be optimistic about the outcome now that Archie Grey is returned from injury. Earlier in the season, Leeds defeated Liam Manning’s team 2-1 at Elland Road.

Leicester has played 29 games and is now at 69. With 59 from 28, Ipswich is in second place, while Southampton, who are playing incredibly well, have 58 from 28. After tonight, the others have games in hand over Leeds.

Redknapp, however, told Football League World that he does not think Leicester has the championship locked up and that Leeds poses a “danger” in the mini-league that will be fought for the title amongst the top four teams.

“I don’t believe Leicester City has no chance of winning the division. Right now, Southampton is just unstoppable. Redknapp stated, “I wouldn’t rule out Southampton winning the championship.”

“Leeds also pose a threat.” They are quite powerful. The level of service provided by Elland Road is among the best. They will undoubtedly exert pressure. Leicester and Southampton might want to keep an eye on one other.

Has Leeds got a chance? Leicester, led by Enzo Maresca, is nine points ahead of Leeds, even with a victory tonight; the Foxes will still have a game in hand. Leeds, however, is unconcerned with the championship.

Leeds will simply be begging for automatic promotion. achieving a top two finish. Southampton is beginning to pull ahead, while Ipswich is perceived as the early starter who will eventually run out of steam.

While Redknapp notes that the race is not yet over, Leicester appears to be the clear favourite to win the championship, and it would take a major upset for another team to defeat them. Leeds and Saints might be in it for second place.

Leeds United moved into second place in the Championship with a 1-0 win over Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Friday (2 February).

The Whites, who have played two more games than Ipswich Town and Southampton in third and fourth, respectively, have now won five successive league games in 2024.

Wilfried Gnonto scored what proved to be the only goal of the game less than two minutes into the second half in Bristol.

Illan Meslier, 6

I am no doubt grateful to have had a very quiet evening on the back of some shaky displays of late. Had just one save to make, with Bristol City struggling to create much of note.

Archie Grey, 8

Yet another superb display from the midfielder-cum-defender at right-back. Produced a couple of sliding challenges and ensured his direct opponent did not get a sniff. His three dribbles were the most of any Leeds player, as he combined defending with attacking. Connor Roberts may have to wait for his debut.

Joe Rodon, 7

Gnonto may have scored the winner, but Rodon’s defensive header later on earned him plenty of pats on the back. Not the busiest of nights for him, but this passage of play showed that he can be replied to when needed.

Ethan Ampadu, 8

As versatile as they come, Ampadu again did a job when called upon in central defence. Nobody could better his two interceptions, as he read the danger before it even arrived. The best moment came when Nakhi Wells had a yard on him, yet the Welshman still got back to make the block.

Junior Firpo – 7

Played a part in Gnonto’s goal with a tidy pass forward and was lively down the left. I was beaten a couple of times, but thankfully for Leeds, it did not matter.

Ilia Gruev, 7

Barely put a foot wrong in central midfield as he helped turn possession over—he had two tackles and one interception—and also boasted the highest passing accuracy of any player with 96.6%.

Glen Kamara, 8

In addition to maintaining a smooth pace of play, he demonstrated his ability to attack from a distance, as no one could match his three crucial passes. From Leeds regular to Rangers reserve, it’s been quite the journey.

Wilfried Gnonto, 8

The way he celebrated his goal made it clear how important it was to Gnonto and what a superb shot it was. Firpo noticed his run and the hidden Italian international. More than that, he kept coming back to support the team’s defence. Please, more of this!

Georginio Rutter, 7

There were some sublime touches, and it was a nightmare for Bristol City defenders throughout. Now operating as a number 10, but his influence on the game has arguably grown. Should have had a penalty in the first half, too.

Crysencio Summerville – 3

attempted a deft finish in the first half, but Max O’Leary easily stopped it. had made six tries overall but was unable to find a way through on a night when the Dutchman, the least productive of Leeds’ front four, was not at his best.The best of the lot was the chance late on, and Leeds might have been haunted by the miss.

Patrick Bamford – 5

fired at O’Leary in the Bristol City goal during the first half, wasting a great opportunity. Had a great game by all means, and he contributed to Gnonto’s goal, but he will be sad not to have added more goals to his 2024 total.
