Disgraceful footage of Leeds United incident emerges from win v Norwich as Georginio Rutter robbed

A video that was captured on January 24 between Leeds United and Norwich City shows Georginio Rutter being denied a goal.

Even though the Canaries received a free kick and put everyone forward, including their goalie, the Whites were ultimately victorious, 1-0. The game finished with late drama.

Ultimately, Leeds played outstanding set play defence, and when the ball eventually found its way to Rutter, he appeared to be clear through on the rival goal and stole a march on the Norwich players in the Whites half.

But referee Matthew Donohue brought it back for a free kick rather than awarding the hosts the advantage and signalling play to continue.

The video unequivocally shows that the Frenchman would have been walking the ball into an empty net if he had been given more time, as he was quicker than goalie Angus Gunn.

The officiating was appalling, and if Norwich had managed to score in the final moments, it would have been the biggest theft of the year.

Referees are taught to allow the game to flow and this was the total opposite by Donohue, who surely annoyed the Elland Road faithful as well.

Matt O’Riley was linked to Leeds United at the close of the summer transfer window last year. Chris Sutton has since stated that O’Riley might depart, but only after the season, should Atletico Madrid act.

Chris Sutton urges Celtic to keep Matt O’Riley after Leeds bid

It’s uncertain whether Leeds will keep him on their shortlist. Certainly, while Leeds are in the Championship, any deal for O’Riley is improbable – given he would cost too much, and O’Riley would undoubtedly reject a move.

It’s possible that he will feel a desire to end his Celtic career with a championship this year, just like Sutton proposes. Leeds has a great chance if they get promoted and Riley decides to stay.

However, even with negotiations, his price would undoubtedly remain above £20 million. O’Riley is a unique talent, and he must stay if Celtic are to win the Premiership this year. It will tempt him, Atleti.
