The £9 million defender talked about how Leeds was almost his.

“We have a couple of options for you, Leeds and Huddersfield,” Brendan remarked to me when he pulled me aside the day before we were heading home. He advised me to visit Huddersfield at the time because Leeds was going through a difficult period and other issues. The next day, he said I could travel to Huddersfield, and he took care of it for me, according to Coady.

What could’ve been

We can’t help but speculate as to what could have happened if Coady had arrived at Leeds at that particular moment.

Remember that Leeds, playing under Garry Monk, just lost out on the playoffs in that 2016–17 campaign? Maybe the Whites would have advanced if Coady, a future England international and outstanding captain, had been part of that team.

Monk lost his job as a result of Leeds’ failure that year, but who knows? Maybe he would have stayed on if Coady had been there to help Leeds go over the finish line. Given that Huddersfield and Reading met in the championship game, it wasn’t exactly a historic year, so maybe they would have made it to the playoffs.

In light of Leeds’ recent sliding doors, this is undoubtedly an intriguing occasion to consider.
