Even before he was a member of Leeds’ first squad, there have been rumours that Grey is drawing interest from some of Europe’s best teams.

Speaking on the most recent episode of the Square Ball Podcast, Phil Hay claims that when Grey signed his first professional contract last year, he truly accepted “reduced money” than was being given elsewhere.

“My impression was that there was a release clause in the prior contract. I’m not sure for sure, but it wouldn’t shock me if it turned out to be true in part. In that case, it will be set extremely high.

As soon as Grey turned 17, he signed professional terms, even though he wasn’t allowed to do so until then. There were five or six more clubs that expressed interest. Since he desired to stay, he accepted less money at Leeds in comparison to what he was given elsewhere.

Gray’s choice to decline more lucrative offers from other teams has undoubtedly paid off, as it’s doubtful that he would have played nearly as much football for Leeds this year.

Whites teammates have acknowledged that the 17-year-old is among, if not the best, talent to come out of the academy in a long time this season.

Having previously expressed his goal to win the Champions League, Grey will one day compete for the highest accolades in the sport. Hopefully, Leeds will be able to enjoy Grey for many more years to come.
