“I have good news”: Journalist drops Leeds United transfer update amid hunt for full-back
Leeds United may turn to Burnley’s Connor Roberts in their search for a full-back this month, having lost both Luke Ayling and Djed Spence in the last seven days.
While the Whites are getting ready for their trip to Cardiff City and South Wales on Saturday, supporters anticipate that transfer business is going on behind the scenes.
It’s evident that Daniel Farke needs to add one or more full-backs because his team appears weaker now than when the transfer window opened at the beginning of the season.
Ben Jacobs issues update on Leeds’ transfer hunt
The “good news” about Leeds’ pursuit of new players this month is that, according to CBS writer Ben Jacobs, the team is attempting to recruit a left-back.
He reveals that the Welsh pair Chris Mepham and Connor Roberts are on their shortlist, and that other teams’ attempts to let their players go are probably going to be met with resistance.
Jacobs posted this in a Q&A on social media:
“I have excellent news to share. Leeds should target a full-back, in my opinion. Connor Roberts and Chris Mepham are both potential candidates. Additionally, they wish to cling onto Crysencio Summerville. Growing interest, but Leeds has been quite happy with his approach over the summer.
”
This comes alongside multiple positive updates in regards to Burnley right-back Roberts, as the Daily Mirror (10/1, 2.09pm) report that the Clarets are willing to listen to offers for the defender. Not only that, but the club are admirers of what he brings to the table, and the 28-year-old appears to be open to the possibility of a move to Elland Road. Roberts hasn’t started a Premier League game since October, and will likely be eager to get back to playing regularly. It is usually difficult to assess the quality of players available in the January window because it is rarely worthwhile to pay a premium for players who appear to be sure things.
But it appears Leeds may be able to get a good deal here, given Roberts’ apparent want to depart and his team’s willingness to sell.
Roberts would complement Dan James perfectly and be a huge asset to our back line both while in and out of possession.
