Profile of Leeds United transfer target emerges as Phil Hay shares 22-y/o full-back interest
Leeds United intends to sign a left-back this season, but since they want to strive for promotion, the player they choose will probably be someone who has “proven” experience.
Leeds needs to add a handful of new players to its roster this month since Daniel Farke doesn’t currently have many choices at full back.
Leeds made the audacious decision to terminate Djed Spence’s loan, which left the team thinly stocked on both sides of the back four.
“Proven” left-back in sight for Leeds
Daniel Farke has previously informed the media that Leeds is in fact searching for a left-back, as reported by Football Insider.
Nevertheless, they also state that the team is searching for a “proven” full-back profile who has the ability to play naturally on the left, as they have mostly relied on Sam Byram to do so this season.
They are not the same as any targets Leeds may have for the left-back position; Byram and Junior Firpo are probably better options.

Neco Williams on Leeds’ shortlist
Recruitment is required for both full-back positions, and Leeds may be pursuing Neco Williams of Nottingham Forest, another Welsh international.
That’s according to Phil Hay of The Athletic, who says on The Square Ball Podcast that the team is considering the right-footed defender:
“A few people have been telling us that they like Neco Williams at Forest as well but I don’t think there is any scope for Forest letting him out. He seems to be well in the plans of Nuno. It’s very, very quiet on the transfer front for Leeds at the moment.”
Before the month is over, we need to make investments on both sides of the defence, and Williams would be a fantastic method for us to reinforce on the right.
As Hay points out, the problem is that, having recently been appointed, Nuno Espirito Santo might not be eager to let him go.
We need a guy who can play both ends of the ball, so a “proven” left-back makes a lot of sense as well, but those players are hard to come by in January.
