The legendary Maracana served as the backdrop for a characteristically aggressive match between the South American titans, but a header from Nicolas Otamendi sealed the 1-0 victory after a pinpoint pass from the Spurs midfielder from the corner.
Players tried to restore order following post-match altercations between fans and the police, but Lo Celso’s assist helped Argentina maintain their lead in the CONMEBOL qualifying table while Brazil fell to sixth.
