Mystery man still seems to be working behind the scenes at Leeds – report

Leeds star to remain ahead of January transfer window – Graham Smyth

As Leeds United gets ready for the January transfer window, Nick Hammond seems to still be a member of the management group, according to Graham Smyth of Leeds United.

Despite only initially joining the Whites on an interim basis, Hammond remains at Elland Road with no intention from either side to part company, according to a journalist for the Yorkshire Evening Post on Saturday, November 19.

The Whites plan to appoint a permanent replacement director of football by October, but as of yet, no such appointment has been made. Hammond was named an interim football advisor in June with the goal of assisting with recruitment during the summer transfer window.

Since Hammond and Grétar Steinsson are reportedly working together, it is anticipated that Leeds will target loan additions when the transfer window opens. It is also possible that the two have already identified available talent at Premier League clubs.

If it isn’t broke

After making some amazing moves during the summer transfer window, Leeds United now has a roster that is more than capable of competing at the top of the Championship thanks to the additions of Hammond, Steinsson, the 49ers, and Daniel Farke.

To make sure that Farke’s could maintain a promotion push over the course of a protracted Championship season, the team gained much-needed talent with the arrival of players like Joel Piroe, Djed Spence, Joe Rodon, and Ethan Ampadu.

In the run-up to the January transfer window, Leeds would naturally want to keep Hammond close to Elland Road, so they are unlikely to want to veer too far from the recruitment strategy that worked so well for them in the summer.

While it is unlikely that the Whites will be overly active in January given their summer spending spree and lack of need for reinforcements in many areas of the pitch, they will have a better chance of finishing above Leicester and Ipswich if they add a few more quality players.

Ideally, the window will prove to be as prosperous as the summer, and the Whites will be able to build on their outstanding season debut.
