Report: Man Utd eye audacious swoop to sign £26m Tottenham star in January

The Italian publication Corriere dello Sport claims that Manchester United will give Juventus and Atletico Madrid serious competition in January when they try to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, a midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Danish midfielder has been an important member of Tottenham’s team in recent years, but with Ange Postecoglou taking over as head coach, he no longer starts. Pepe Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma have been the Australia’s preferred midfield duo, and Hojbjerg hasn’t played much in the Premier League this year.

The 28-year-old might quit Spurs, according to Corriere dello Sport, ahead of the winter transfer season. Spurs would love to sell him permanently for £26 million, while Juventus is keen to sign him on a short-term contract. In the competition to capture the former Southampton captain, Man United and Atletico are prepared to put up a strong fight.

Experienced player

Hojbjerg was one of Tottenham’s ever presents in the starting lineup not too long ago. Under Ange, who has given the young Sarr preference over him, the situation has entirely transformed. Given the presence of Rodrigo Bentancur and Oliver Skipp in the team, Hojbjerg’s long-term future at the London team is in doubt.

For the whole of the summer transfer window, he was expected to leave Spurs, so it won’t be shocking if he submits a transfer request in January. Juventus has shown interest in signing him, but Spurs may not be keen to let Hojbjerg leave the team permanently, so their plan for a short-term transfer may not sit well with them.

This may present a chance for Atletico or United to get him. With Casemiro, Sofyan Amrabat, and Scott McTominay at the No. 6 spot, the Red Devils are well-equipped; however, the former will be sidelined until Christmas due to a hamstring injury. This winter, United might pull off a spectacular move to get Hojbjerg if his recuperation does not go as expected. He would be a quick fix for them and has a ton of English football playing experience.
