Bristol City were left frustrated by missed chances as they lost 1-0 to Coventry City.

Coventry had the better of the first half and should have been ahead by half-time thanks to a Rob Dickie free-kick that went just wide of the far post in the first half of stoppage time.

In the first half, Mark Robins’ men had 74 percent possession but it took 34 minutes for Coventry to get their first shot on goal. The goal came from a counter-attack and it should have been a goal but for a good save by Ben Wilson.

Substitute Ben Sheaf then hit the bar with a header from a Ben Godden free-kick.

However, Dickie scored just before halftime to give Coventry a deficit at the break and leave them cursing their inability to take advantage of their superiority. The Sky Blues struggled to produce chances until the very end of the game, when it was a case of too little, too late. The second half was a very uninteresting affair.

Andreas Weimann, Bristol’s first shot on goal, was stopped just after the half-hour mark by a great save made low to the ground. got a touch on Dickie’s header but was only able to push it into the side netting for the home team’s goal, even though it appeared to be already in. overall had virtually little to do.

played aggressively as City dominated the first half, attacking high balls and winning his headers. The goal was scored in his area of the box, therefore he could have done better.

He blocked and won a lot of balls at the back, although he wasn’t really tested too much in the first half when City were dominating. He kept Tommy Conway at bay with his experience, but couldn’t deal with Rob Dickie’s free-kick that gave the Robins the lead in the first half. He defended well after the break.

Liam Kitching was back in place of Kitching, and he was reading the game well and making good use of his left foot. He covered a lot of ground and defended well overall.

He was a welcome addition to the right wing-back spot, and he got forward well and was a good outlet on the right. He should have done better in the second half, cutting inside and shooting high and wide at the last second, but he beat his man with an excellent first touch.

He did well in midfield, blocking and tackling well and covering a lot of ground. He was steady but didn’t really stand out.

Returning from six games out with an injury, he brought quality and composure to the centre of the park and went close to a goal in the 7th minute with a superb 30-yard strike that hit the crossbar. He also had an excellent range of passes.

He was booed by some of the Robins’ fans on his first appearance back at Ashton Gate, where he was well forward and sent some good balls into the box, but he was not at his best in the first half and was less effective in the second.

He started in the rare role of No.10 behind the strikers and was lively, forcing the keeper into a first save with a good shot that went over the bar in the third minute. He also fed Simms with a nice lay back, but the striker shot wide.

He had a good first half when he enjoyed the passing between the midfield and the strikers, but he gave away a free-kick which led to a goal. He faded after the break and was replaced by Ayari

Assisted in establishing the play with some good touches and flick-ons while City pushed for an early goal. In the 27th minute, after Simms had set him up, he huddled his head in his hands and attempted to take a shot but missed wide. Lately, Dickie, who was blocking his first-time attempt in the box, denied him.

Dragged an early attempt painfully wide of the goal when he might have scored but had a good connection with Godden, who he set up for a chance. At times, desperately needed better service.

He was unable to give the much-needed spark for an equalizer and received a booking for a professional foul. made room for himself and nourished Godden for an untimely chance that was turned down.
