According to Rudy Galetti, Ange Postecoglou’s top priority for Spurs in January is to replace injured players Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic. Conor Gallagher is also suggested as a potential midfield addition.

Gallagher, who has been a consistent member of Mauricio Pochettino’s starting eleven at Chelsea so far this season, has been the subject of various conflicting reports over the past month and a half over his future.

The Blues administration are willing to sell the 23-year-old in January amid Tottenham’s interest, according to The Athletic from September 12.

Even 90 minutes claimed a few weeks back that the Spurs thought the England international will choose them as his next stop if he leaves Stamford Bridge in January.

 

Nevertheless, a recent article on Football Insider cast doubt on those assertions, claiming that Gallagher is prepared to sign a new contract with his childhood club after receiving assurances from Pochettino that he is a crucial component of his plans.

Two out and one in for Spurs midfield in January

According to Galetti’s most recent report, Spurs may be willing to trade Lo Celso and Hojbjerg to create place for the 23-year-old Chelsea star, suggesting that the club has not yet given up on trying to sign him.

Additionally, the journalist corroborated previous reports from other sources about Tottenham’s interest in Al-Ittihad winger Jota and Postecoglou’s intention to invest in a new front.

Pierre Hojbjerg and Giovanni Lo Celso are the two most prominent names on the outgoing list, according to Galetti, who spoke to Tribal Football.

“The likelihood that they will depart in January for Spain is increasing. Tottenham is willing to consider a loan for the Argentine midfielder, and Atletico Madrid is always interested in the Danish midfielder, which could lead to a variety of scenarios, including an assault on Conor Gallagher.

“However, the priority of Postecoglu is to replace Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon – both injured – on the left side of the pitch.

“To date, Spurs – among others – are monitoring Jota: after his sensational move to Al Ittihad, coach Nuno, for the moment, doesn’t consider him an important player and this difficult situation could facilitate his transfer as early as January.”

Given that Gallagher is clearly essential to Pochettino’s ambitions, I would be quite astonished if Chelsea allowed him to depart in January.

I do, however, fully anticipate Tottenham to test the waters with an offer if the 23-year-old does not agree to a new deal at Stamford Bridge within the next few months.
