A condition was added to the defender’s contract when he joined the team nine months ago that allowed him to leave if Leeds United fell to the second division. In the end, the 25-year-old was awarded a loan move to Bundesliga team Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Wöber has won over the Borussia Park faithful, and the team’s director of first-team play, Nils Schmadtke, even suggested that a permanent transfer for the center-back might be in the works.

When questioned by BILD about whether Wöber’s tenure will be prolonged past the loan agreement, Schmadtke responded, “Everything in its own time.”

The former Ajax defender would, however, only sign a long-term contract with Mönchengladbach if Leeds United are unsuccessful in gaining re-promotion to English football’s top division, according to German publication Rheinische Post (via Caught Offside).

If the Lilywhites compete in the 2024–25 Premier League season, Wöber will be compelled to return to Elland Road once his contract in Germany expires.
