Time for Daniel Farke to unleash £4m man yet to start for Leeds, before he gets frustrated – Opinion

After Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Southampton, Daniel Farke will now be expected to make several changes to his side – and it is only a matter of time before he finally brings Ilie Gruev into the fold.

The 24-year-old has been put on the back foot ever since he arrived at Elland road, having signed for a club-record £4m in January.

He has not joined the club with the intention of simply warming the bench.

Instead, Farke has opted to stick with the same starting 11 that beat Watford one week before the Southampton game.

He told his players at the time that if they played well, they would keep their place, but the 11 he put them in just didn’t work.

So, it could be that Jamie Shackleton comes off the bench on Wednesday, along with Glen Kamara and Dan James.

Farke should finally start Gruev as Leeds take on QPR

But to this point, it is what he has done. He was a late substitute against Millwall and Watford, but was not deployed on Saturday. Russell Martin’s team dominated the Leeds midfield at Southampton.

So maybe it’s time to remove Ethan Ampadu from the firing line. The Welsh player has played every minute thus far, and considering the rapid turnaround following a listless performance, he may be due a break.

In front of a home crowd against a faltering QPR team, this must be the ideal opportunity to introduce Gruev as Leeds resume their winning ways. He will undoubtedly become frustrated if he doesn’t.

How is Sinisterra getting on?

Following the Colombian’s threat to sue Leeds, the Cherries signed Sinisterra, prompting CEO Angus Kinnear to declare the winger would not be on Leeds’ “Christmas card list.”

Since signing from Leeds, he has appeared twice as a substitute for Andoni Iraola’s team, once each against Chelsea and once against Arsenal.

Only two points have been earned by Bournemouth thus far, and their most recent defeat to the Gunners, 4-0, saw Sinisterra enter the game with the score at 3-0.Leeds player had the lowest BBC rating of any player on the field after an utterly ineffective cameo, 3.33.

Leeds supporters will be intrigued by Max Aarons’ performance, since he let up a penalty and had a terrible day at right-back after also ignoring Leeds in August.
