‘Spurs fans moaned’: BBC pundit says 23-year-old Tottenham player annoyed supporters just before their winner

BBC pundit says Tottenham fans were moaning at Kulusevski just before winner

Dejan Kulusevski may have irritated a few Tottenham Hotspur supporters prior to what ended up being the game-winning goal in their spectacular victory over Liverpool, according to Stephen Warnock.

After Joel Matip, responding to a cross from Pedro Porro in stoppage time, pushed the ball into his own net to give Ange Postecoglou’s team the three points, Warnock was speaking to BBC Sport.

Dejan Kulusevski contributed to the success. When the Swede gained possession on the right side and cut inside, he was faced with the decision of whether to pass the ball into the goal or take a shot himself as Tottenham appeared to be in the dying stages.

Kulusevski ultimately did neither. He passed the ball backwards instead. Fortunately for Tottenham, the choice was rewarded quickly. However, Stephen Warnock observed that not all of the crowd was impressed with the winger’s pass.

“When Kulusevski played the ball backwards, the Spurs supporters groaned, but it created space for Porro down on the right side. It has paid off to be patient, he told BBC Sport.

He dashed towards the by line, and Matip simply completely gets it wrong! does not organize his feet. Alisson lashes out at the ball in anger.

Spurs needed one high-caliber moment, and they got it at the very end.

Spurs find a way

It would have been heart-breaking for Tottenham if they had not won. Liverpool had lost Curtis Jones to injury in the first half, while Diogo Jota was sent off in the second. Spurs would have felt as though they had missed a golden opportunity if they hadn’t won.

In the end, it came down to luck. Matip was unable to get his feet under him and had no option but to shoot past Alisson Becker into the corner of the net.

Spurs are daring on the ball and take risks, so they deserve some luck on days when they are off-colour.

Of course, Liverpool will be angry at some of the decisions that didn’t go their way. And they came tantalisingly close to giving Spurs a point.

There’s still plenty for Spurs to improve on, but it could be a huge three points in what promises to be an extraordinary season.
