Sky Sports pundit says £10m man will only be a ‘bit-part’ player under Daniel Farke at Leeds
David Prutton, a Sky Sports presenter, has suggested that Patrick Bamford may only be a “bit-part” player at Daniel Farke’s Leeds United, as the striker returns from a long-term injury.
The 30-year-old striker has not featured for the club this season, having picked up another knock in last week’s pre-season win over Hearts.
With £10m Bamford set to return to training next week, it is understood that he will be expected to play a key role in the run-in against Southampton.
Leeds are currently in the bottom third of the league, with Geregio Rutter in the driving force behind the team. Prutton has given his opinion on Bamford, saying that if he is 100% fit and ready to go, he is a “bonus” for the club, but added that he could only be a “back-up option” at some point in the future.
“Bamford is back in the mix. He has been there before, he has been written off before. He knows what it is expected, what the levels are and what the demands are of being a centre forward for Leeds United.
“His challenge now is to go again as an older player and to make sure that he’s part of this next episode of what the story is. If it gets Leeds back into the Premier League at the first knockings then great.
“Whether he is a bit part player or a main player we will see. But a fully fit, raring to go and motivated Patrick Bamford is only a bonus for Leeds,” Prutton claimed about Bamford, in his latest column.

There’s no denying Bamford is a huge addition to Leeds, especially at this level. But he won’t start in front of goal over Rutter and/or Piroe. We’re in the middle of a long season, and it’s only natural that he’ll start games for us.
If Farke has all his options at his disposal – then it’ll be Rutter up front and Piroe in the number 10 role. Next up for Leeds is Southampton, as they look to go unbeaten in seven league games.
