Newcastle United star ‘in talks’ with Champions League favourites as clubs yet to agree transfer fee

Newcastle United are once again at the centre of major transfer speculation, with reports claiming one of their standout players is being targeted by European giants Bayern Munich, widely regarded as Champions League favourites. Talks are said to have already taken place, although both clubs are still far apart on agreeing a transfer fee.

According to recent reports, Bayern Munich have opened discussions with representatives of Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, identifying him as a key target to strengthen their attacking options. The Bundesliga champions are believed to be impressed by his pace, direct running, and versatility across the forward line, making him an ideal candidate for their long-term plans in Europe.

The 25-year-old has become an important figure at St James’ Park since joining Newcastle from Everton in 2023, developing into one of the Premier League’s most dangerous wide players. His performances have attracted attention not only from Germany but also from other top clubs across Europe, including Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Bayern are reportedly considering Gordon as a potential competitor for their current attacking options, particularly on the left flank. However, Newcastle are not under pressure to sell easily, with the player under a long-term contract that runs until 2030. That places the Magpies in a strong negotiating position, especially with no agreement yet reached between the two clubs over valuation.

Sources suggest Bayern value Gordon at around £50–£55 million, but Newcastle are expected to demand significantly more before even entering formal negotiations. This gap in valuation is currently the main stumbling block preventing the deal from progressing further.

Newcastle’s position is also influenced by their wider ambitions to remain competitive in domestic and European competitions. Having already seen interest in several key players, the club is determined not to weaken their squad unless a major offer meets their financial expectations.

Despite the ongoing uncertainty, initial talks indicate serious interest from Bayern, who are preparing for a busy summer transfer window as they aim to strengthen their squad for another Champions League push.

For now, discussions remain at an early stage, with no agreement in place and negotiations expected to continue in the coming weeks as both clubs assess their next steps.
