Leeds United chiefs have one ‘criticism’ of Daniel Farke as promotion secured to the Premier League

After Leeds United won promotion to the Premier League, it’s difficult to disagree with Farke, yet detractors always manage to have their way.

The Leeds manager, who has occasionally been criticised for his actions, deserves his praise.

However, Farke has called for “ambition” in the Premier League, and the German wants the best for the Whites.

Farke is unquestionably the best candidate to lead Leeds ahead and merits every opportunity to compete in the Premier League.

The 49ers, however, have identified a “criticism” from this season that nearly let him down.

49ers blame Daniel Farke for Illan Meslier fiasco at Leeds United

The way Farke treated Ian Meslier was one issue that kept coming up within the club.

After numerous mistakes, it appeared as though the Frenchman could not be undropped, which nearly cost Leeds.

Farke may have ended the season badly if he hadn’t replaced Meslier with Karl Darlow.

He was fortunate to do so, and the 49ers would have approved of the choice in light of the reports from The Athletic.

There was scepticism among certain club officials over Meslier after Farke publicly supported him following his antics during Leeds’ 3–3 draw with Hull City, the outlet claims.

According to a source, the length of time it took Farke to fire Meslier was the one “criticism” of the coach in what have been two excellent seasons.

Farke can impress the 49ers with ruthless Meslier action at Leeds

The Leeds manager will have little trouble resolving the custodian issue if he wishes to demonstrate to the ownership that he has changed his mind about Meslier.

The Frenchman may even be aware that his days at Elland Road are coming to an end, but Meslier has been shielded for far too long.

Worst goals prevented in the Championship this season
19. Illan Meslier: -2.7
20. Freddie Woodman: -3.5
21. Thomas Kaminski: -3.9
22. James Beadle: -3.9
23. Angus Gunn: -7.4

There is only one person who can solve the situation, and that person is Meslier, who has made it apparent that he does not wish to be a backup. This person must locate the exit door.

Farke is already viewed as long-term by the 49ers, but in order to dispel this criticism, he must be brutal in the transfer market and remain compliant as Leeds get ready for the challenging Premier League schedule.

In a related news:

In preparation for the Whites’ return to the Premier League the following season, Mike Grella has offered some advice to Daniel Farke.

After Sheffield United lost 2-1 away to Burnley, who also earned promotion to the Premier League, Leeds United clinched promotion to the Premier League on Easter Monday, meaning they now have a lot of work to do.

Daniel Farke, meantime, saw Joel Piroe score four goals in Leeds United’s 6-0 victory over Stoke City. Now, Leeds and Burnley will face off in a straight-up match for the Championship title.

There are just two games left in the 2024–25 Championship campaign: Leeds visits Plymouth Argyle for their season finale, where they have a chance to win the Championship trophy, and they play Bristol City at Elland Road on Monday.

maybe if Farke and his team have accomplished incredible things this season, some players may already be worried about their spot in the starting lineup for the upcoming campaign or maybe their place in the squad as a whole.

Mike Grella says Leeds United need to replace Brenden Aaronson

After Leeds United got promoted, former Whites player Mike Grella spoke on CBS Sports about the no. 10 position and how Leeds has a lot of talent in that area but no real no. 10 to fill it. He went on to acknowledge that Brennen Aaronson has been essentially taking over that position, but he implies that Farke would need to give the American a makeover before the upcoming campaign.

Grella explained: “For me, I think they have a lot of depth in the behind-the-striker position: so they’ve got Solomon, Ramazani, Gnonto, Aaronson, Daniel James, and they’re almost all the same player, and I think Aaronson is sort of, like, fitting in that no.10 position, but not truly a no.10. I think he can fit in one of the outside positions.

“If you’re going to play that way, maybe someone with a different skillset in that no.10 position that plays behind Piroe. A proper no.10 that will create numerical advantages that maybe he could add a little bit more to goal-scoring. I know Aaronson had a very good season goal-scoring wise, but playing also in a team that scores the most goals in the league, so that’s the position I would look to strengthen.”

Leeds United’s summer transfer plan that could involve Brenden Aaronson

Though Grella makes a valid point about Aaronson merely playing in a high-scoring squad, Aaronson has been the target of criticism throughout the season despite appearing in all 44 of Leeds’ Championship games to date and scoring nine goals.

Farke has even occasionally chastised Aaronson’s play, but he has included him in every game and appears to like the 24-year-old, who will undoubtedly play a part in the upcoming campaign. But Leeds United needs that little bit of star quality at a position that is so important on the pitch.

Transfer specialist Graeme Bailey recently told Leeds United News that the 49ers have a summer transfer strategy and that they are aware that there is still a lot of work to be done. He also mentioned that the number ten spot is one that is being considered.

It’s another matter entirely whether Aaronson wishes to remain. When he sees who Leeds United ultimately brings in this summer, it might be decided.
