Preston deal Leeds United transfer blow in hours after Elland Road clash – Report
Preston visited Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, disqualifying Leeds United loanee Sam Greenwood from playing, but Paul Heckingbottom’s team doesn’t seem keen to extend his contract.
Saturday afternoon’s home test between Leeds and Preston ended with what may have been the Whites’ biggest three-point haul of the season, as Sheffield United lost their crucial match against Plymouth Argyle.
Preston’s Sam Greenwood, who is presently on loan from Leeds and cannot play against his parent club, was unable to play over the weekend.

This season, Greenwood has achieved five goals and three assists while wearing a Preston shirt. He is looking for a permanent home, as it appears that he will not be staying at Leeds.
After his loan there last season, Middlesbrough did not exercise their £1.5 million buyout option, and Preston also has a set amount to pay if they want to accept Leeds’ offer, according to current Preston director Peter Ridsdale:
“The decision on that will be in two people’s hands and that’s the manager here and Sam’s hands,” Ridsdale told the Lancashire Post.
“The Leeds promotion, or otherwise, is not a complicating factor because all of that’s been taken into account in the numbers that have already been agreed between us and Leeds.

Their other loanee, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, has shown promise at Deepdale this season. His stock is said to have increased even more after his outstanding left-footed finish against Leeds, and it is said that he has emerged as a 25/26 priority.
Greenwood will now enter a new summer when Leeds will try to unload, ideally on a long-term contract.

The cost is obviously not the problem Leeds have with Greenwood because he can contribute more than ten goals in the Championship.
It could also be the salary he fetches, as he signed a new long-term contract with the team after surviving in 2022. It’s hard to say exactly how much he makes, but it’s bound to be a lot for a Championship team to commit to.
However, we must make money this summer since he is clearly insufficient to have a significant influence here.
