‘Not his best’: Daniel Farke says he wasn’t happy with 28-year-old Leeds player’s energy against Coventry

Daniel Farke admits Leeds player did not have his best day against Coventry

Many of the guys were really lacking in performance. Glen Kamara was also among those who put up a strong fight against Mark Robins.

Prior to the victory against Hull in midweek, Daniel Farke mentioned Kamara’s health. Ilia Gruev returned to the side, although he maintained his starting position against Coventry.

Kamara was substituted off at halftime on Saturday, a rare move by Farke. And, as Phil Hay of X wrote, the Leeds manager clarified later that the Finland international seemed to still be having difficulties.

Too many have gone off the boil at the same time

It seemed like every player had advanced to a new level during our winning streak in the first few months of the year.

It should have been obvious to us that the run would not last indefinitely. However, it is concerning how many players in the previous games appeared unremarkable.

Leeds barely managed to salvage a point from Watford. They also had cautions regarding Hull. They were sorry to have to miss out on another trip to the well this weekend.

The next game is coming up soon, which is fantastic news. On Tuesday, Leeds will play Sunderland. But we really need players like Kamara to get back into the game.

Leeds United: Jermaine Beckford shocked by what happened against Coventry – ‘What on Earth’

Joel Piroe’s late miss on an opportunity to tie the game at 2-1 away to Coventry City left Jermaine Beckford stunned.

Early in the second half, the Whites were behind 2-0 after to goals from Ellis Simms and Haji Wright. However, 10 minutes in, Piroe came on and tied the score.

Nevertheless, in stoppage time, he appeared to lose his cool when he had a chance to equalise. He scuffed the shot towards the bottom corner, allowing Bradley Collins of Coventry to make a save to preserve the hosts’ victory and sentence the Whites to defeat.

Leeds United: Jermaine Beckford shocked by what happened against Coventry - 'What on Earth'

The Leeds great Beckford told LUTV that he was shocked by what he witnessed and that “wasteful finishing cost us, ultimately.”

“We had two great opportunities – Joel Piroe as well, came on and scored a brilliant goal, great composure in front of goal.

“And then his second opportunity, he almost snatched at it, couldn’t make the right contact, not the right connection with it, and that was quite surprising.

“When we were in the studio I was thinking ‘What on Earth has just happened here? It must have been a tackle’.

“It’s just one of those things, it’s an opportunity lost especially with Leicester winning and Ipswich dropping points as well.”

Leeds United lose ground in the promotion race

Leeds’ defeat at the hands of Mark Robins’ team would have vaulted them to the top of the Championship standings after Suffolk Town’s earlier defeat at the hands of Norwich City. However, their wasted opportunity against Coventry has left them in third place, two points behind new leaders Leicester City, who also have a game in hand. Leeds dominated possession of the ball as usual, recording 70%, but they were far more open than they have been in recent months, facing 11 shots, five of which were on target [FotMob]. There were also no personnel concerns, with Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon paired at the heart of defence and Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev ahead of them in midfield.
