‘Fantastic’ – Ally McCoist & Jeff Stelling share Leeds verdict amid ‘Drama’ live on air

Leeds United: Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling share ‘fantastic’ promotion verdict live on talkSPORT

After Leicester, Ipswich, and Leeds United all won, Ally McCoist stated that it would take a courageous man to predict which two of the current top three will automatically advance.

As he waxed poetic about the drama of the promotion race, the former Rangers player hinted that the entire top three picture would shift once more the following week.

Jeff Stelling, on the other hand, questioned how all three clubs were able to win considering the pressure, especially in the games when Leeds and Ipswich both won in the end.

Stelling said during a live broadcast on talkSPORT [06:11]: “God knows how they all won, but the top three are still separated by just two points.” Leeds defeated Hull 3-1 by keeping up with two goals in the dying minutes from Summerville and James.

Then McCoist said, “Wonderful, they scored late too.” We are discussing the top three in Liverpool, City, and Arsenal, but the situation is the same in the Championship. The play.

You’d have to be a courageous man to choose the two [automatic promotion teams] since Leeds United left it late. Everything might alter by next week.

Jeff Stelling & Ally McCoist share Championship promotion claim

Leeds knows they still have a battle ahead of them if they hope to win the championship or automatic promotion from the Championship, considering the high bar set by their rivals. This is evident when Leeds dropped to second place.

Speaking ahead of the April 1st games, Stelling hinted that he might choose to go up, saying he was impressed by Ipswich and their challenge for promotion considering the strength of Leeds, Leicester, and Southampton.

Leicester, Leeds, and Ipswich have all held the top spot at various points throughout the last two weeks, so we are still no closer to knowing the result of the title and promotion battles with just six games remaining.

The three clubs have been playing at such a fast speed that any one of them finishes outside of the automatic promotion spots and advances to the playoffs might count themselves as very unlucky. This is after all three teams triumphed once more.

Leeds United’s 3-1 victory over Hull City at Elland Road Friday night was definitely earned through hard work.

Leeds knew they would be under pressure going into a very difficult match against the Tigers, having witnessed both Leicester City and Ipswich Town pull off upset victories earlier in the day.

Leeds had taken the lead early on thanks to a goal from Sam Byram, but the opposition did not back down from a challenge as they controlled much of the possession and eventually equalised through Fabio Carvalho.

In the last 30 minutes, Leeds finally proved to be the superior team, although they did not take the lead until the very end, when Cristiano Summerville converted a penalty kick that he had won.

After City’s ‘keeper went forward for a corner, Dan James placed the cherry on top in the seventh minute of added time with a goal from 45 yards out.

Farke says Leeds are actually really missing £5m star with injury right now

Leeds’ performance at Elland Road yesterday night was far from their best, but given the players that were absent and the hectic schedules of many others, that should not come as a huge surprise.

Glen Kamara and Archie Grey represented a very different midfield duo for Leeds, and it’s important to note that neither was an obvious number four.

Despite the fact that Grey appeared to be assigned to sit in front of the back four, he still had a number of offensive advantages.

Daniel Farke acknowledged at the press conference following the game that Ilia Gruev is someone Leeds is currently badly missing.

He said: “A lot. We are thin in midfield. Ampadu important in central defence. Ilia dictates our rhythm and good on the ball. Lacked quality in possession. Archie great enthusiasm.

“Has to get used to the positioning of our game. In dictating the rhythm or speeding it up, at his age he cannot be perfect. Missing Ilia a lot. Played without Connor and Willy.”

Leeds desperate for Gruev return at Coventry on Saturday

Farke had been overly optimistic. Gruev was scheduled to return last night, but it was evident that his ankle edoema had not decreased as much as they had hoped.

Nevertheless, the fact that there was some hope for him to play yesterday may be advantageous for his prospects of making it on Saturday, since Leeds will now have a full five days to recover.

Leeds have no one in the midfield that could win challenges and pick up loose balls, so they are incredibly keen for the £5 million summer addition to return.

The fact that Ethan Ampadu is still required to play defence in Pascal Struijk’s absence illustrates how thinly staffed the squad is right now in the middle.
