Liam Cooper, a centre back for Leeds United, has a summer contract that expires, and as of right now, there is no word on whether the team will renew it.

Leeds supporters took to social media to share a quote from Liam Cooper’s dressing room after the team’s Premier League relegation at the end of the previous season.

The centre back’s feelings about the impending change were highlighted, and even though he hasn’t been a regular in the starting lineup this year, he has still had a significant impact, as seen by his goal on opening day, which set the tone for Leeds.

Liam Cooper out of contract in the summer

Cooper is one of the players whose contract is set to expire at the end of the summer, along with a few others.

The current final year of his Leeds contract, which is his eleventh at the club, will end since he turned down a Saudi Arabian offer to stay at Elland Road this season.

With just 14 league matches to his credit thus far, he is on track to have the second-lowest total since joining Leeds in 2014.

Paul Robinson: No shock if Cooper wants to leave this summer

Sky Sports analyst Paul Robinson said in an interview with MOT Leeds News that Cooper would probably decide whether to stay at Leeds or go.

If the Scotland international wants to stay at Elland Road for another season, a big factor in his decision will be his lack of playing time.

According to Robinson:

 

“I think it would probably come down to the player’s personal choice, I think he’s a player the manager would like to have around.

“I think he’s been a fantastic servant for the club, the way he’s performed in promotion seasons, the way he’s performed in the Premier League I think he’s a talisman for the club.

“I think he’s the type of player the manager would like to keep in the dressing room regardless of if he’s going to play him every week or not.

“I think it will come down to the player’s want and desire to play regularly.

“You look at the players Leeds have got now, Rodon and Ampadu the two centre-halves, then arguably Pascal Struijk when fit goes ahead of Liam Cooper now. But in a Premier League team, in a Premier League season you’re going to get games.

“It’s been difficult for him this season, he’s a player who likes to play week in and week out, and he’s a player who plays with rhythm and when he plays consistently he gets better.

“I think it’s hard for a player like him to dip in and out of the side, so if he left I wouldn’t be surprised but on the flip side if he stayed I think he’s a player the manager would want.”

Cooper is not in Farke’s lineup at full strength, as has been made evident, and the 32-year-old will like to be on the pitch at this point in his career.

At this point in his career, he probably has one more fantastic move left in him, and many teams would be happy to sign Cooper for nothing.

Since he currently only plays a supporting role in the Championship, Cooper would not play for us in the Premier League.
