According to Romano, Veliz was on his way to the airport to fly to London and finalize his move to Tottenham earlier this month.

According to the transfer insider, on that drive to the airport, Veliz’s agency received calls from “important European clubs.”

Veliz was advised not to go to London and sign with Tottenham by those teams, who said they would be making moves for him soon enough.

Alejo Veliz will need some time, but Tottenham believes they have acquired a very significant talent, according to Romano. “Some clubs – important European clubs – started to call his agent and said ‘don’t sign, don’t travel because want to wait until the end, we want to try until the end,’ so it wasn’t just Tottenham on this guy who joined from Rosario Central,” he continued. “This guy was going to the airport to sign for Tottenham.”

Veliz adhered to the plan, however, and decided to join Tottenham, which Spurs appear to be happy about.

Tottenham, who reportedly saw Veliz as a future star, agreed to a £13 million agreement to acquire him from Rosario Central in Argentina.

In 62 games for Rosario Central, the 19-year-old scored 19 goals, displaying potential as a target player with strong aerial skills.

Although it’s unknown how frequently he will play this year, Alejo is undoubtedly a player to watch at Tottenham in the years to come.
