The Sheffield Star revealed earlier this week that Wednesday is eager to sign Poveda on a long-term contract this summer.
The 24-year-old, who arrived at Hillsborough at the conclusion of the January transfer window on loan from Leeds, has thus far had a good impact on the team.
During his loan, Poveda has played for the Owls five times, starting four of those contests. However, it is still unknown what will happen to him once this loan ends. He will return to Leeds at the end of this season, when his contract also expires.
Poveda appears to be eager to join Wednesday permanently, although it may require the Owls to maintain their Championship standing.

We asked Carlton Palmer, a former England midfielder, what he thought about Sheffield Wednesday’s interest in permanently signing Ian Poveda from Leeds United.
Palmer feels the player will want to sign a long-term contract with the Owls, and he thinks the team would be in prime position to sign him should they win the championship.
Palmer only disclosed this to Football League World:
“Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Rohl have expressed interest in signing Ian Poveda, who has shown great play in recent weeks and helped Sheffield Wednesday have a realistic chance of surviving in the Championship.
They have two important games coming up: at home against Plymouth Argyle and away against Rotherham United. They have committed themselves.
“They have two critical games coming up, with Rotherham United away and Plymouth Argyle at home. They have given themselves a real chance, so Poveda has already become a fan favourite, he’s excelled at Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Rohl is doing a fantastic job and is giving these players loads of confidence.
“So Sheffield Wednesday would like to sign him, I would assume, but that will depend on which division they are in, so this will be talked about at the end of the season.
“Should Sheffield Wednesday retain their Championship status, then I think they would be in pole position to sign Ian Poveda, who I believe is out of contract at the end of the season.
“He’s 24, so he’s at the right age and whatever happens he is going to be a free agent, and he is going to be a very hot commodity, but Sheffield Wednesday retain their status. I’m sure, working under Danny Rohl and Chris Powell and the backroom staff there, that he will want to join the club on a permanent deal.”

Sheffield Wednesday is still fighting to avoid relegation, even if they are in a better place than they were a few months ago.
Wednesday is now in 23rd place in the league with 32 points, three points behind Stoke City and QPR in 22nd and 21st place, respectively, with 12 games left to play.

The Owls have been playing excellently lately, winning three of their past four games, even though they are still in the relegation zone. This play has forced other clubs to get involved in the relegation battle.
