After defeating the Detroit Lions 34–31 in the NFC Championship Game, the San Francisco 49ers will play in the Super Bowl. San Francisco had a successful third quarter despite trailing 17 points at the half. They erased the deficit going into the fourth quarter with a Jake Moody field goal, a fourth down stop, a Brandon Aiyuk touchdown pass, a forced fumble by Tashaun Gipson Sr., and a Christian McCaffrey rushing touchdown. Detroit, who managed just one touchdown in the second half, was unable to win the game after an Elijah Mitchell rushing touchdown and another field goal in the closing minutes. The organisation is making its second journey to the big game in five seasons with this trip to Super Bowl LVIII.

For the first time since the 2019 campaign, and for the eighth time overall in team history, the San Francisco 49ers made it to the Super Bowl. With eight Super Bowl appearances, the 49ers are tied for second most in NFL history.

The San Francisco 49ers won the NFC Championship Game on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Detroit Lions 34-31 to advance to the Super Bowl. The 49ers will get their second opportunity at a global championship in the previous five seasons with this appearance in Super Bowl LVIII. After winning the NFC West title and the No. 1 overall seed in the regular season with a 12-5 record, San Francisco made their most recent trip to the Super Bowl at the end of the 2019 season.

This was the only time in the Super Bowl era that the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions met in the postseason. The 49ers struggled to win despite falling behind 14-0 early in the game and taking the lead again in the second half. San Francisco has guaranteed a spot in their second Super Bowl in five seasons with their 34–31 victory over the Lions.
