Ahead of Sunday’s Championship match, The 72’s writers predict Leeds United vs. Preston North End.
Leeds United is ranked fourth in the championship standings going into this match. Although Daniel Farke’s team is undoubtedly among the top six, they might not have enough to seriously compete with Southampton and Ipswich Town for the second slot this year.
Preston North End is ranked twelve. Although Ryan Lowe’s team hasn’t played well in the Championship this year, they are still just two points out of the playoffs. They won’t likely place in the top six, but they do achieve enough points to be considered, so going into this one, it can’t be discounted.
Here are some of our writers’ predictions for the games.
Thomas Kelly-Hansford
The clear favourites in this matchup are Leeds United. They are at home, they are in better condition, and they have a stronger side.
“I just think the chances are too slim for Preston North End to scrape a result, but they will have to make this a scrappy game.” I don’t think this will be any different for Farke’s team since they have an abundance of offensive firepower that is too much for most other teams in the league.
“I expect Leeds to get the job done comfortably, but it’s not a given.”
Leeds United vs Preston North End prediction: 2-0
“Leeds United will be seeking retribution after Preston defeated them during the holiday season.” However, I don’t see that occurring this time.
“Since then, Preston has had difficulty improving, but their 2-0 victory over Bristol City was a positive development for Lowe and company. In the end though, I don’t think they have enough threat to actually cause Leeds United any problems in this match.
This season, they have demonstrated their offensive prowess on numerous occasions, and this Sunday may be just another opportunity to exhibit their abilities. They win this one 3-0, in my opinion.
