Why Terry Rozier has ‘preference’ to play for Heat

Terry Rozier has ‘preference’ to play for Heat

Terry Rozier’s name is being mentioned in trade rumors once more. Ever since the Charlotte Hornets selected LaMelo Ball in the 2020 NBA Draft, the seasoned guard has been considered a possible trade piece.
Rozier, though, has kept improving his game and is still a vital component of Charlotte’s lineup. However, the Hornets are anticipated to actively rebuild their club around Ball and rookie Brandon Miller now that new ownership has taken over.

According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Rozier might be traded for something else. Rozier’s choice would be to sign with the Miami Heat, Fischer added.

Terry Rozier has 'preference' to play for Heat

Terry Rozier, a combo guard, is now a more attractive trade target at his $24 due to his excellent play.

NBA sources told Yahoo Sports, “the player has a known preference to join the Miami Heat and receive an average annual salary of $1 million,” Fischer reported.

The Heat would be much better off with Rozier, 29, than with Kyle Lowry. While surrounded by other ball-dominant players, he is still very much in his prime and has shown that he can be a secondary or tertiary star.

Furthermore, he exudes a strong competitor persona and has the attitude to blend in with “Heat Culture”. However, before taking on Rozier’s $24 million-a-year contract, the Heat would probably need to let go of Lowry.

Nevertheless, Rozier would give Miami’s offense a fresh perspective. He is averaging 24 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists this season while shooting 36.9% from three-point range and 45.7% from the field. In Erik Spoelstra’s strong defensive scheme, his length and hip dexterity would also make him a dependable point-of-attack defender.

The fact that Miami has been hoarding assets in order to sign a third star player presents the largest obstacle for Rozier. Therefore, it’s improbable that they would give up a lot to get him to South Beach.

Still, Rozier can be the perfect choice for Pat Riley if he’s searching for an improvement at point guard. He would become an instant fan favorite as “Scary Terry” in Miami’s postseason rotation. The offer seems reasonable on paper. Will it actually come to pass is the question.
