Rangers January transfer window news: Update emerges on reported interest in Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt

On January 8, the Scottish football-focused publication said on Twitter that they had not received any word that the Light Blues were interested in the Elland Road player, who is 21 years old.

The Daily Mail had reported earlier that day that Celtic, an Old Firm rival of Rangers, and the Whites player, who is having difficulty getting playing time under Daniel Farke, were both interested in the player.

However, T4O provided an update saying, “For those inquiring, there has been no word regarding Rangers’ interest in Joe Gelhardt.”

Philippe Clement would have good reason to be interested in the Leeds United forward based just on potential.

However, as he isn’t a skilled number nine, he wouldn’t be the one to replace Cyriel Dessers as the leader of the queue, nor would he be an inexpensive loan [Alan Nixon, 8 January].

Leeds isn’t giving him much of a chance right now, so if they were willing to pay a sizable portion of his salary, maybe Rangers might make a deal and pursue other goals.

The seasoned centre back Robin Koch has committed to a full-time summer transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt. When his Elland Road contract expires at the end of the current campaign, the 27-year-old will sign a pre-contract with the German team to make his loan move from Leeds United permanent, according to reports in Germany.

After the Whites were promoted to the Premier League in 2020, Koch joined the team. Over the course of three seasons, the eight-time Germany international amassed 77 first team appearances for the squad, including 66 starts in the top division.

Koch, who has started 23 games for Frankfurt this season, cost United about £12 million ($15.3 million). According to German reports, Koch and Frankfurt will sign a partnership that runs through 2027.

Spence ‘expected to leave’ Spurs

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano says Djed Spence will be making another loan move. Last week, the right-back returned to Tottenham following his loan agreement’s termination by Leeds United.

Spence, who won a promotion with Nottingham Forest in 2022, left Elland Road after a season marred by injuries that saw him play in only seven games for the Whites. According to Romano, Spurs intend to loan the 23-year-old out once more for the duration of the campaign, and he should be able to find a new home outside of North London in a few days.

Spurs has a deal with the former England Under-21 international through 2027. After failing to make an impression at the Premier League club, he played the second half of the season in France with Rennes.
