‘No chance’ Giovani Lo Celso leaves Tottenham in January

Giovani Lo Celso, a midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, has no intention of leaving Hotspur Way in the forthcoming winter transfer window. After the Lilywhites team was beset by injuries and suspensions, the Argentina international fought his way back into Ange Postecoglou’s plans at Spurs. Tottenham is thinking about strengthening their defence, and a deal for Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace and another center-back in the Premier League are being explored.

After a string of injuries to his Lilywhites team, Spurs head coach Ange Postecoglou has decided to call up the attack-minded player in the late autumn and early winter of 2023.
After having a great start to the 2023–24 Premier League season, Tottenham has recently seen some wobbles. On December 10, Postecoglou led his team to a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United, demonstrating that he still has the support of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Lo Celso’s redemption at Tottenham
Lo Celso has been one of the main winners from Tottenham’s injury and suspension crisis. After making an impression in La Liga, the 27-year-old joined Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from Real Betis in a £60 million deal during the 2019 summer transfer window. Under Mauricio Pochettino, Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Antonio Conte, Lo Celso was unable to make an impression and was sent on loan to Villarreal for the second part of the 2021–2022 season as well as the following one.
The Argentina international returned to north London with the intention of finalising his permanent departure from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after accruing playing time back in Spain. But Lo Celso struggled to find offers in the summer transfer window of 2023 before suffering a hamstring injury that kept him out of action until the end of September.
The former Paris Saint-Germain player was expected to get a transfer offer from Spurs during the 2024 winter transfer window, according to a November article from Football Insider. Tottenham was rumoured to consider bids for the outcast between £15 and £20 million.
But injuries and suspensions pushed Lo Celso back into Postecoglou’s starting lineup, where he scored goals against Manchester City and Aston Villa to show Spurs supporters just how good he is. Journalist Paul Brown recently revealed on December 6th, 2016 that the South American merits the opportunity to take James Maddison’s spot at Hotspur Way, who is injured.

Dean Jones on Lo Celso
According to Jones, Lo Celso is mostly a squad member at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but he has the potential to play a significant role in Spurs’ 2023–2024 campaign. The journalist asserts that there is “no chance of him leaving” in January 2024 and that the Lilywhites will want to hang onto him. Smith stated to GIVEMESPORT:
“[As a squad player], you have to consider what success is. To be part of a team like Tottenham right now, if you’re getting good gametime, I think it’s enough. Even if you’re coming into a game as a sub, you’re playing as much of the game as the starter has, anyway. Games are extending towards 100 minutes and beyond. So, if you’re coming on at half-time, you’re getting longer than the guy who started the match in the first place. This becomes part of being a squad player, which Lo Celso has been. He’s going to get more opportunities. I think he’s going to be an important player, and I think the most telling factor of all here is that Tottenham are going to want to hold on to him for now, and there’s no chance of him leaving.”
Tottenham transfer news on Branthwaite and Guehi
As the winter transfer window of 2024 draws near, Tottenham is mulling over their options as the transfer window closes. Sky Sports reports that Postecoglou plans to bolster three important positions in January: midfield, left flank, and centre back, in an effort to give his team more depth.
The former is the top priority following the injury to Micky van de Ven’s hamstring and the recent absence of Cristian Romero due to his red card in Spurs’ 4-1 loss to Chelsea in November. On their transfer want list are OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo as well as Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, who are both highly regarded at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The same source, nevertheless, maintains that Spurs have abandoned their pursuit of Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah after toying with the idea of signing him on the final day of the 2023 summer transfer window. Tottenham has identified Juventus and England U21 talent Samuel Illing-Junior as a target for their wingers. Former Celtic star Jota, who is currently fighting to get minutes at Al-Ittihad, is also a possibility for a loan move.
According to the same report, Spurs want to sign a midfield player to complete a perfect winter transfer window, which would free up Eric Dier to leave for a fee. Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Hugo Lloris are two more players Tottenham may want to trade for next month.
