Premier League club considering ‘shock swoop’ for Tottenham man in January
Hugo Lloris of Tottenham is expected to be the subject of a second effort by Newcastle to sign him in January, according to Ryan Taylor of The Mirror.
He says that should Eddie Howe want to acquire a backup for the injured Nick Pope, he may make a “shock swoop” for the Frenchman.
The first player for Spurs suffered a dislocated shoulder in the team’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United, and he will miss four months of play.
Pope has been a vital member of Eddie Howe’s team since he took over, guiding him to a top-4 finish last season, so this is a huge setback for him.
Although Howe is prepared to rely on former Newcastle first-team player Martin Dubravka until Pope returns, Taylor notes that the team has begun to look at options in case they choose to recruit a new keeper in January.
Hugo Lloris of Tottenham, David De Gea of Manchester United, and Keylor Navas, the former ace of Real Madrid, are among those connected to a move.
De Gea is reportedly open to moving to Newcastle, but the Newcastle management reportedly thinks highly of the Tottenham player and would prefer a move for him.
They made an attempt to sign him in the summer, but Lloris turned down the offer since it was too late and he had no desire to leave Spurs at that point, even if he was aware that Ange was not planning to sign him.
According to reports, Levy is eager to get rid of Lloris because his contract is set to expire in the summer and would consider an offer from Newcastle.
He has made 444 appearances and preserved 151 clean sheets in his 11 years in London.
