Tottenham made a big mistake last summer, £20m player should never have been allowed to leave

Thoughts of the past are always welcome, Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur ought to have been able to see the error of their ways from last summer. The future of Harry Kane was the main focus of the Spurs’ busy transfer window.

Furthermore, Tottenham could evaluate their team before the transfer window closed when he did ultimately depart for Bayern Munich.

Tottenham also fell short in crucial areas, even though the players they did bring in have turned out to be excellent choices.

It was inappropriate for the team to begin the season with three senior centre backs, even with the calibre of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, especially since Postecolgou had no intention of using Eric Dier.

Though goals aren’t always accomplished, it’s simple to argue that Tottenham should have added a defender in the summer.

But Tottenham and Postecoglou’s decision to allow Joe Rodon to go on loan should be considered unacceptable.

Though he might not be the ideal Postecoglou defender, Rodon is unquestionably a stylistic improvement over Dier.

Spurs should have been more self-centered, but Rodon is currently having a great loan period at Leeds, one that works for both the player and his new team.

Ange Postecoglou made a mistake letting Joe Rodon leave Tottenham in the summer

It appears evident that Rodon is not considered a long-term member of Postecoglou’s team, and that’s okay.

Nonetheless, the defender is a skilled ball handler who could have carried on the superb play of Tottenham’s starting pair.

Recently, Rodon has received praise from Ben Davies for his ability to play out from the back, which is exactly what the Spurs need right now.

This argument should be qualified by the fact that Leeds should now be able to obtain a competitive price for the defender come summertime thanks to Rodon’s loan.

According to reports, Tottenham is prepared to sell the Welsh international for a reported £20 million.

But Spurs might eventually pay a price for that right now.

It appeared as though Tottenham might have erred in selling Davinson Sanchez, who was beginning to fit into Postecoglou’s system, for £13 million.

But now it appears that Joe Rodon was the one who ought to have stayed.

And while it might be simple to say that right now, by the end of the summer, this circumstance ought to have been predictable as well.
