Ange Postecoglou gives update on Tottenham Hotspur star Ben Davies after ‘nasty’ knock in training

Following Ben Davies’ absence from Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League match against Fulham on Monday, Ange Postecoglou has provided an encouraging update on his injury.

Following nine games, Spurs easily defeated 2-0 to maintain their lead in the Premier League. They managed to win, nevertheless, without Davies, who reportedly missed the match due to a “nasty” knock he received during practise.

According to Football.London, Postecoglou stated this before Tottenham’s league matchup against Crystal Palace on Friday at Selhurst Park:

“Yeah he [Ben Davies] is fine. He got a knock the day before training. It is fair to say our training at times teeters on the edge and unfortunately he copped a nasty one in training.

“Just a knock but it was the day before the game so it kept him out. He has training and is fine and ready to go.”

Having players like Davies healthy and ready to go is always a plus. Since Spurs switched to a four-man backline and Destiny Udogie is now our permanent left-back, he isn’t really a regular anymore.

Davies is a useful asset

But it’s essential to have him on the bench. Given how long he has been here, he has a lot of experience and can play a variety of defensive positions. That is crucial whenever you wish to finish games with a slim lead.

Over the course of five games this season across all competitions, Davies has only played 133 minutes. He probably won’t start the game against the Eagles. Postecoglou is likely to stay with the backline that has proven effective thus far.

The 30-year-old international from Wales appears to be nearing the end of his tenure at Tottenham. Though one can never be sure what is going on behind the scenes, his contract has just over 20 months (Transfermarkt) left on it and there don’t appear to be any signs of a renewal.

It will be his tenth season at the Spurs at the completion of the current campaign. It is unfortunate that we won’t be participating in Europe this season because he has been a fantastic servant to the team and deserves more playing time.

In the grand scheme of things, Davies may be willing to consider Tottenham as a credible contender for the Premier League crown if it meant missing out on playing time in Europe. Additionally, he can still have a significant impact in domestic cup competitions.
