Norwich 2-3 Leeds: Daniel Farke’s side come from behind to win on his return to Carrow Road thanks to Crysencio Summerville’s late double

This was a reunion with your previous team that not even Daniel Farke could have imagined. But for lengthy stretches, his return home was in danger of turning into a nightmare.

For the first time, he was back at the club where he won two championships, but his team was defeated by Gabriel Sara’s masterful first-half performance, falling down 2-0.

However, a stunning brace from Crycensio Summerville and an own goal by Shane Duffy saved Leeds from appearing to lose three points, saving Farke’s face.

If he had been aiming for a low-key exit, this game’s drama, opportunities, and goals quickly put an end to that.

It sometimes seemed more like you were watching two heavyweights square off in the final round in Las Vegas during the first half of the game than you were watching Championship football on a gloomy Saturday in the United States.

Crysencio Summerville’s late double saw Leeds earn all three points at Carrow Road
Shane Duffy’s header for Norwich had given them the lead, but he later scored an own goal.

The hosts struck first as Canaries defender Shane Duffy thumped home a close-range header off Gabriel Sara’s corner in the fourth minute.

However, despite the early setback, the guests persisted.

A sixth goal for the Dutchman for the season appeared to be the only consequence as Daniel James allowed the ball to glide across his body in the middle of the pitch before threading through striker Joel Piroe. Unusually, Piroe pounced on the chance and missed his shot.

James, who sprinted through from the halfway line with less than 30 minutes remaining and replaced the injured Angus Gunn, should have challenged replacement goalkeeper George Long.

As he bared down on goal, he prodded the ball past Duffy, leaving the Irish defender on his backside, but his shot was way beyond the crossbar.

Before halftime, the game was always going to score another goal, and Norwich’s advantage was increased thanks to a superb front-to-back pass.

Onel Hernandez on the right got the ball in stride before laying on Sara after Kenny McLean picked it up deep inside his own half and sent an inch-perfect pass out to him.

He was surrounded by a sea of white shirts, and the opportunity appeared to be lost. But Sara discovered a gap that nobody else at Carrow Road noticed, and with a little help from Brazilian magic, he was able to evade five Leeds players and score with his left foot.

Farke isn’t used to losing at this stadium in the Championship; in his 69 games as manager, he only suffered 14 defeats.
