‘It cannot get any worse’: Mikel Arteta says two Tottenham players really hurt Arsenal in NLD

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta accused Tottenham Hotspur of taking advantage of his team’s mistakes to win the North London derby 2-2.

On Sunday, Arsenal were held to a goalless draw by their bitter rivals. The Gunners looked completely disjointed, and they conceded two goals to Tottenham, with Son and James Maddison taking full advantage of those mistakes.

Mikel Arteta says Tottenham’s Son Heung-min and James Maddison punished Arsenal

On Sunday, Arsenal went into the game as the overwhelming favourites against Tottenham. The Gunners are the better team and have more quality players, but for some reason, they looked dreadful after the first half hour.

Arsenal took the lead after Cristian Romero’s own goal, but then Buka Saka’s mistake allowed James Maddison to turn him and find Son Heung-min in the box, who scored with ease.

Then, in the second half, Saka gave Arsenal the lead again, but Jorginho’s mistake allowed Maddison to set up Son, who calmly finished.

Arteta was asked about this at his press conference yesterday and he said that there is no worse mistake than one that allows Maddison and Son to get the ball.

He said, according to Arsenal.com, “errors and mistakes are part of football, they happen and sometimes you have to get lucky when you make them so that the other team doesn’t penalise you.”

He added that Arsenal could have won the derby on Sunday if they had taken the chances given to them by Edin Dijk and Gabriel Jesus.

“Of course, when the ball goes to Maddison and Son, it can’t get much worse than that,” he added.

Arsenal will now have to face Brentford in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night, with a number of players absent due to injury. It will be intriguing to see the team Arteta will put together.
