“Too good” – Sky Sports pundit backs Leeds United top two push, names three vital players
After a 3-0 home win over Watford, which was their first home win of the season, it was their fourth clean sheet in a row and their third win in a row overall.
There is no point in looking at the league table for any club at this stage, but it is enough to see promising performances, and there are plenty of those right now under Daniel Farke.
Could Leeds push for promotion?
Despite Willy Gnatoul being ruled out with a knee injury, the hosts scored three goals at the home of the Hornets to demonstrate the attacking quality of Leeds.
Joel Piroe scored twice, Sam Byram also got on the score sheet, with Jaidon Anthony rounding off a comfortable win for the hosts, and Sky Sports’ Don Goodman was delighted with the result.
When discussing Farke’s side’s performance today on Sky Sports News, Goodman said: “I think Leeds have done a really good job in terms of not only playing really well and pushing themselves to their limits against such a strong opponent, but also in terms of getting things back on track after such a hectic summer.
Goodman said:
“Yes I think so, in those forward areas we’re starting to see genuine Championship quality, quality that’s probably too good for the Championship in Joel Piroe.
“I’m glad that Georginio Rutter has found his feet and found his confidence, throw into the mix (Willy) Gnonto and more behind that as well, their options are brilliant.
“Look, it was a really, really unsettled pre-season with all the comings and goings, contract clauses, and who was going to be there when the transfer window shut.
“Very, very difficult for Daniel Farke, and he kept his counsel, I was really impressed with the way he handled himself, and he backed himself knowing that it was only a matter of time before everything started to click into gear.
“You look at it now, and you see a team that, again like Leicester, you’d be really shocked it if they’re not up there challenging for the top two, and at the absolute minimum, top six.
“As a Leeds lad, I’m really pleased to see things have settled down.”
