Leeds United have pulled off masterstroke with under-the-radar signing of Lewis Pirie
Leeds United have made a number of significant additions to their squad during the summer transfer window, including the acquisitions of Joao Piroe and Etoile Ampadu. In total, eleven players have been brought in – both on a permanent basis and on loan – to make up for the departure of a number of players.
It is important to note that the incoming transfer business does not exclusively include first-team players, as it also includes players who have been brought in with the intention of contributing to the club in the future.
At the beginning of the summer, United’s transfer window opened with the capture of Josh McDonald and the emergence of Lewis Pirie. Although he is only 16 years old and has no senior experience with Aberdeen, it was never anticipated that Pirie would challenge for a spot in the senior team in the near future. However, the signs are encouraging for the teenage striker’s long-term future at Elland Road, as he has made a strong impression at youth level.The goals he scored against Newcastle and Manchester City in U18 Premier League are no doubt drawing the attention of the bigger clubs.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke is not one to shy away from giving younger players opportunities, as evidenced by Archie Gray’s seven league starts so far this season.
Pirie is likely to be part of the first team picture for the foreseeable future, and while his big chance is likely to come later on in the season rather than now, this signing is sure to be a long-term success for Leeds.
