The news comes at a time when Leeds have a relatively strong goalkeeping squad. Illan Meslier, who was expected to leave the club in the summer, has surprisingly stayed in Yorkshire.
The club also made a move to sign Karl Darlow from Newcastle United for a fee of approximately £400,000. Darlow was expected to be Leeds’ number one and it is thought Lumley would have stepped in as his successor if Meslier had departed. However, that did not happen and Darlow is now at Southampton and has yet to make his first-team debut for the club.
Gavin Bazunu is still the number one at the club, despite the recent struggles of the side and his own poor results last season.
In the end, no matter what Lumley’s plans were at Elland road, given how the transfer window worked out, he wouldn’t have been more than a 3rd choice, so his decision not to stay isn’t a huge loss.

Leeds loanee Aaronson criticised by German media
Aaronson wasn’t even supposed to be in the starting lineup on Saturday, but was called up in ‘a matter of minutes’ after former West Ham United midfielder Alex Kral picked up an injury.
Aaronson didn’t last long, though, being replaced at half-time with Hoffenheim 2-0 up after squandering a golden chance to score just before the half-hour mark.
He said: “I was put into the starting lineup at the eleventh hour for Alex Král but was unable to make any further appearances. It was telling when I shot from a central area after 19 minutes but put the ball way past the keeper.
It looks as though the same mistakes Aaronson made at Leeds are being made again in Berlin, where he has yet to score a competitive goal for the club since the 3-0 win over Chelsea 13 months ago.”
In midweek, Aaronson was criticised for his lack of strength/stiffness in possession during the Champions League tie against Real Madrid, something he was often criticised for during his one season at Leeds.
