Ange Postecoglou calls up 20-year-old Tottenham youngster to first-team training ahead of North London Derby
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou appears to have called up youngster Nile John to train with the first-team ahead of Sunday’s North London Derby. In a video posted on Tottenham’s official YouTube channel, Postecoglou can be seen working with his players ahead of Sunday’s game at the Emirates Stadium, where they will face their toughest challenge of the season. Spurs have started the season with four wins from their first five Premier League games, and last time out they came back from behind to beat Sheffield United 2-1 in stoppage time.
It appears that Spurs academy product John has been included in Postecoglou’s first-team squad for Sunday’s game.
John called up to Tottenham first-team training
In a video posted by the club on their YouTube channel, John can be seen alongside the first team. He has made three starts for Spurs Under-21 so far this season, scoring one goal. John made his first-team debut for Spurs in the Europa league in 2020-21 under Jose Mourinho, and he also had a run-out in the Europa conference league the following season, but the Englishman has not featured since. He was on loan to Charlton last January, but he did not feature in the League One side.
It does not appear likely that John will have another chance to make an appearance for Spurs in the foreseeable future, but it should be beneficial for him to be part of the first team squad.
With manager Paul Postecoglou seemingly intent on giving younger players more opportunities, John will be eager to make an impact.
