Joe Gelhardt nearly made a spectacular comeback to the Leeds United team last night when his late shot struck the post, sparing Leeds from having to play in extra time. He will, however, have been let down.
With almost 20 minutes remaining in the game, the 21-year-old entered. His only other appearance for Leeds since early September was a late substitute performance in the 1-1 draw with Coventry. He used the right side of the field.
It follows Daniel Farke’s decision to sit Patrick Bamford and Georginio Rutter and rest them. Joel Piroe being in the 10, he made the decision to start Mateo Joseph ahead of Gelhardt.

It is obvious that Farke thinks Joseph is better than Gelhardt, which pushes Joffy way down the hierarchy. It is improbable that Gelhardt will play before the season is up, maybe against Villa or Chelsea in the FA Cup.
He will undoubtedly regret not leaving in January. He was intrigued.Rangers and Celtic were connected to him, but Blackburn, Hull, and Preston were interested.We were advised that Graeme Bailey could go back to Wigan.
After last night’s decision from Farke to play Joseph over him, he will surely be wishing he had at least gone on loan to get some game time. As things stand, he may have to play for the 21’s to get minutes.

At Home Park, Leeds defeated their Championship opponents 4-1 in overtime after the fourth-round replay ended 1-1 in regular time.

Although Daniel Farke would have preferred to see his team win in regulation time, the most crucial thing is to survive.
Leeds hasn’t had a strong run in this competition in a very long time, and later this month, either Aston Villa or Chelsea await.
Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter came off the bench to assist secure the victory, proving that Leeds’ quality ultimately paid dividends.
