Fears after Tottenham midfielder is stretchered off with injury on international duty
Shortly after making his comeback on Sunday night, the seasoned Tottenham player was substituted out of the World Cup qualifying match.
Moments into his season-opening match on Sunday, Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma was substituted off due to an injury. The 29-year-old missed the Spurs’ season opener due to a knee injury, but he has recovered enough to be available for Mali’s call-up during this international break, joining them for their second World Cup qualifying match of the two-week period against Madagascar.

In the 66th minute, Bissouma entered the game at the Stade Modibo Keita, but according to reports from the 4-1 triumph, the midfielder was hurt nearly instantly after colliding with an opponent when the ball initially came to him. According to reports, the Tottenham midfielder needed a stretcher to help him leave the field because he was unable to do it on his own.
A move away from N17 this summer had been thwarted by Bissouma’s knee ailment. Spurs wanted to let the former Brighton player go, and a transfer to Turkey and other Premier League teams were suggested as his contract with the north London club neared its end.
However, nothing was in store for the midfield player, who was excluded from both his Champions League team for the league stage of the competition and the UEFA Super Cup squad at the beginning of the season by his new head coach Thomas Frank because of his habitual tardiness.
“There are no hard feelings at all,” the Spurs manager stated last month following the window closing. Not now, not before, and not at all. Everyone has an opportunity if they train effectively.
“He has just started to run outside, so he is not part of the group but everything I’ve seen when I’ve said hello to him and every day with the players, he seems good.” Bissouma appears to be dealing with yet another injury.
The Mali international has experienced similar issues in the past, missing a significant portion of his first season at the club due to a stress fracture in his left ankle in February 2023 that required surgery, if the injury is indeed an ankle injury as one social media source indicated following the game.
