Jamie Carragher switches sides when asked to pick Celtic or Rangers

When asked which of Celtic and Rangers was his favorite Scottish team, pundit Jamie Carragher changed sides. Alongside former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville, Carragher, a stalwart of Liverpool, has made 737 appearances for the Reds in 17 years. Since then, he has been a frequent on Sky Sports.

Carragher never won the Premier League championship as a player, but he did win multiple domestic cup events. The defender played in the historic final against AC Milan in Istanbul and won the UEFA Cup in 2001 and the Champions League in 2005.

Carragher was challenged by colleague commentator Micah Richards to choose between Celtic and Rangers during his coverage of the 2024 Champions League on the American network CBS Sports. The former defender for England merely stated: “I’m Celtic.”

“Right now it’s Rangers because of Steven Gerrard, but as soon as Steven leaves it’ll be Celtic,” Carragher responded when asked the similar question in an Instagram Q&A back in 2020.

Since Steven Gerrard, Carragher’s longtime Anfield teammate, resigned as Rangers manager in 2021, Carragher has returned to the green and white. Since his time as Villa Park’s manager wasn’t as successful as he had intended, Gerrard moved to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq in 2025.
