Chairman Daniel Levy is debating whether to move forward with his plans to fire Postecoglou following Spurs’ victory over Manchester United in the Europa League last week.

According to people close to Postecoglou, the Australian was certain he would be fired before the 1-0 victory in Bilbao.

Frank’s contract with Brentford features a sizable release clause that is estimated to be worth around £9 million.

The Dane and Spurs’ technical director Johan Lange have also been friends for a long time.

With a 4-1 loss to Brighton at home on Sunday, Tottenham finished just one spot above the relegation zone. They have lost 22 of their 38 Premier League games, which is the most of any team escaping the drop in the history of the league.

After the game, Postecoglou was rather positive about how the Spurs season had gone despite this new low.

His response to the question of how he would rate the Spurs’ season was, “Outstanding.”

“We are in the Champions League and won a trophy, something we haven’t done in 17 years.

“Ask any supporter at the start of the season if they’d take that and there wouldn’t be a person in the house that wouldn’t.”

Additionally, Postecoglou was not in the mood to talk about his future following the game and called the conversation “unnecessary.”

“You know my gut feeling? My gut feeling is I feel right now that I’ve done something that no one believed I could,” Postecoglou said.

“And I shouldn’t be sitting here talking about it (my future).

“That’s my feeling, but it is what it is.

“As I said I am and probably I am talking now because I’m tired, mate. I have to [talk] about another game and I just want to go on a break and enjoy my family and reflect on being part of something unbelievably special, unbelievably special.

“I’ve been fortunate to be in this position a number of times, but seeing those scenes Friday and people have reached out and talked to me about how it has affected them what has happened over the last couple of days. It’s a beautiful thing and I just want to enjoy that.

“To be honest, the rest of it? You know I don’t even want to be talking about it. I just think it is unnecessary.”

When Spurs paraded their Europa League trophy on Friday, he was in a rebellious mood, implying that next season would bring greater triumph than this one has.

“I told them and they laughed,” Postecoglou bellowed as he addressed the club’s supporters during their open-top bus parade on Friday regarding his trophy promise.

“When I informed them, they chose not to believe me. Here we are.

“I’ll leave you with this, all the best television series, season three is better than season two.”

But he seemed to acknowledge that he regretted these remarks when he remarked, “I should have thought about it a bit more because as somebody rightly pointed out, sometimes they kill off the main character,” during the Saturday pre-game news conference.

“I could be in strife there!

Spurs supporters go crazy after Ange Postecoglou declares during the Europa League trophy ceremony that “season three is better than season two.”

“Even prior to the game, I expressed my belief that we are merely constructing something, and a big victory speeds things up.

“I am not going to place any restrictions on what we can do because I firmly believe that to be the case.

“I certainly believe it’s exciting the possibilities of next year knowing I’ve got a group of players now and staff and a club that knows how to win and wants more of it.”

Antonio Conte was replaced as Spurs’ permanent manager in the summer of 2023 by Postecoglou.

Although Spurs had a successful first season in North London, placing fifth in the Premier League, this season has been terrible at home, with the team finishing only one spot above the relegation zone.

Nevertheless, their Europa League victory has earned them a historic trophy and a spot in the Champions League for the upcoming year.
