Alejandro Garnacho hails Tottenham star as ‘best in the world’ after Manchester United defeat in Europa League final
After Tottenham defeated Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday, Alejandro Garnacho declared that Cristian Romero was the best centre-back in the world.
Romero won Player of the Match for his performance in Bilbao, where Spurs won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Brennan Johnson in the first half.
After the final whistle, the Argentina international and Harry Maguire got into a heated argument, with the United centre-back yelling at his rival.
Romero and Garnacho play together for Argentina’s national team, and Garnacho believes the 27-year-old should now be considered the best centre defender in the world.

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have expressed interest in Romero in the run-up to the summer transfer season.
In addition, he raised questions about his future at Spurs last month when he said that he wants to play in La Liga before his playing days are finished.
In response to a question concerning his future following the final, Romero stated, “I cannot stop what is said outside about what will become of my future.”

After Ange Postecoglou guided Tottenham to its first major title in 17 years, Gareth Bale has urged the board to decide on his future as soon as possible. With their victory in Bilbao on Wednesday, Spurs also guaranteed their spot in the Champions League for the upcoming season.

After the game, Tottenham legend Bale discussed his thoughts on Postecoglou and the victory on TNT Sports.
“[It’s] amazing for the club,” he said. “It’s been a long time coming and I’m absolutely delighted for the club. All the fans. The amount of years they’ve waited and I think they’ll celebrate this one with a lot of alcohol.”
Bale went on to add that the domestic season will be forgotten when questioned about the accomplishment. “Exactly and now Ange goes down as a legendary manager to win the European Cup, so I think you’ll look back at this, like I said at the start of the programme, and see Tottenham winning the Europa League,” he remarked. “You won’t see anything else in terms of league position.”
Will Postecoglou remain in north London if he wins the elimination tournament? “To be honest,” Bale replied, “I think only the chairman can decide that.” “Whether he goes or not has been the subject of a lot of discussion.
“I guess it will be interesting to see now because he’s won a trophy and he’s the first Tottenham manager to do that in a long time. I guess the board have some decisions to make. They either back him or they don’t and they’ve got to do it soon.”
When asked if he would also back Postecoglou, Bale remained evasive. The former winger responded, “I like the football that he plays,” when asked if he would rather see Postecoglou stay.
“Obviously he lacks a bit of a plan B but tonight shows there is a plan B. He showed a different side to how he’s played so I guess as a manager, if he matures as a manager and brings that kind of defensive side to his teams. yes of course, he can bring success.”
Following concerns that he could leave after the triumph, Postecoglou was also questioned about his future plans. “That decision is not in my hands,” he said. “It doesn’t affect me. If it was going to affect me then you would have seen it in the buildup to here. All that I cared about was this thing [the medal]. You know, having this thing around my neck means this football club has won a trophy.”
“I said that, but I don’t feel like I’ve finished the job yet,” he said. We are still in the planning stages. I had only one goal in mind when I took the position: to win something. Over and above anything else. Now that we’ve completed that, I want to expand on it.”
There to see the final was Daniel Levy, who has also been under pressure from fans this season. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of United, was seated two seats away from him.
