Mark Clattenburg makes VAR claim as he comments on Leeds United’s disallowed goal vs Plymouth
Mark Clattenburg makes VAR claim after Leeds United win vs Plymouth
It was a fantastic conclusion to an incredible season for Farke and Leeds, who can now begin making plans for the Premier League.
When the Whites are finally declared champions, Eddie Grey, who was connected with Leeds supporters in Plymouth, is sure to have a great evening.
Farke wants to conclude this campaign with a celebration, a far cry from the disappointment of missing out on the 2020 festivities.
However, the authorities made yet another disastrous judgement, so it wouldn’t have been a Leeds game without controversy.
Joel Piroe tapped it in after Solomon sent it through to Willy Gnonto, who was deemed offside as he placed it across the goal.
Fans were incensed by this since they could see that Gnonto was talking to Leeds United while obviously onside. News: Former referee Mark Clattenburg strongly criticised VAR, saying he was “baffled” by the ruling.
“Another offside situation that is upsetting Leeds United supporters,” Clattenburg said.
“Leeds thought they had scored but again were denied by the Assistant Referees flag. Replays show that the goal should have stood and now Leeds United are back in the Premier League will be happy that they will have VAR.
“I am still baffled why the Championship with so much money at stake, does not have VAR especially on offsides which are factual.”
Leeds can’t wait for VAR in the Premier League
A 100-point season is an amazing accomplishment for this Leeds club, but it’s unfortunate that this choice nearly takes centre stage.
If the Whites had lost because of that choice, there would have undoubtedly been a great deal of indignation, but Solomon saved the day.
Following the victory over Middlesbrough, Daniel Farke was incensed with offside calls. Had Leeds lost the championship, the Whites manager would have reacted angrily once more.
With these rulings still pending, it is obvious that VAR is necessary in the Championship, and Clattenburg is absolutely correct in his assessment.
Now that the Premier League will have VAR at their disposal, Leeds supporters will be anticipating the celebration.
In a related development:
Leeds supporters were disappointed that others were left out, even if Dan James, Ao Tanaka, and Jayden Bogle were the stars who deservedly received the accolades.
Manor Solomon’s spectacular last-minute goal ensured Leeds defeated Burnley to win the trophy, and Leeds went on to win the title in spectacular fashion on the closing day.
Daniel Farke took time out of his celebrations to voice his own frustration with the Team of the Season at full time, referring to Solomon’s exclusion as a “joke.”
Daniel Farke wanted Manor Solomon in Team of the Season
After the game, Farke had a press conference and discussed his opinions on Solomon’s stellar season.
“If you recall Manor’s previous season, everyone had doubts about him because of his injuries,” he remarked.
“He has shown consistency. A joke he was not in the Team of the Season. Outstanding this season.
“Had some injuries this year, but he always came back.”
Should Manor Solomon have been in the Team of the Season?
It’s not just Solomon who is disappointed that he didn’t win the award.
Joel Piroe won the Golden Boot with 19 goals, finishing the season as the Championship’s leading scorer.
Josh Sargent of Norwich City, however, who only managed 15 goals, was chosen as the striker.
The outstanding Junior Firpo also lost to Harrison Burrows of Sheffield United, despite contributing to 14 goals.
By brazenly tweeting that he was the “second best left-back in the league,” Firpo expressed his personal frustration with the EFL’s ruling.
Despite his impressive play, Solomon most likely didn’t deserve to start on the left flank over Borja Sainz of Norwich, who finished the season with 18 goals and four assists.
Although Solomon’s performance in the final stretch has been outstanding, it is only a six-game streak, as his previous campaign play was inconsistent.
