Chris Wilder sends message to Leeds United and Daniel Farke after pipping Sheffield United to promotion

Following Sheffield United’s loss to Burnley at Turf Moor, which resulted in Leeds United and Burnley both earning promotion to the Premier League, Chris Wilder has been speaking.

Burnley, Sheffield United, and Leeds have been in a three-way competition to place in the top two for the whole season. Leeds appeared to have faltered after winning just one of their last six games.

Leeds did, in fact, drop to third position following the draw at Luton Town. But Daniel Farke’s team came back and won four straight games at the same time as Sheffield United lost three straight.

Sheffield United has already been eliminated from the play-offs, leaving Burnley and Leeds to compete for the championship after losses to Oxford United, Millwall, and Plymouth, followed by Monday’s loss at Burnley.

With a 6-0 victory over Stoke City, Leeds defeated a team vying for promotion while Mark Robins’ team appeared to be on vacation. The Staffordshire team was routed by the Whites.

As a result, Wilder’s team was under pressure to defeat Burnley and snap their 30-game winning streak. However, a brace from Josh Brownhill was too much for Sheffield United to overcome.

Burnley’s 2-1 victory secures both Leeds’ and Burnley’s spot n the top two, forcing Sheffield United to compete for a spot in the playoffs. After the match, Wilder gave Leeds and Farke his congratulations in an interview with ITV Sport.

“First and foremost, congratulations to Daniel and Leeds – they have been incredibly outstanding all season. I’ve just congratulated Scott. We can still get into the nineties and that is an achievement.

“The season got away from us, but the three best teams have been in and around it all season, until that really bad week and lost three games. Fairplay, they stepped on the gas and took it away from us.”

How Kalvin Phillips and Pablo Hernandez reacted to promotion

With Leeds back in the big time after being relegated at the end of the 2022–2023 season, there is a lot of debate about whether the team has a chance of surviving. Gabby Agbonlahor has already predicted relegation, while Adam Pope says Leeds will need to spend over £100 million to survive.

In the meantime, Kalvin Phillips and Pablo Hernandez responded on Instagram, but the focus is still on Leeds’ final two games. Farke will be eager to win the Championship title because his previous two promotions at Norwich came with the Canaries winning the division and finishing top.
